In this post I will show how I enabled Modern Authentication within my Microsoft 365 Tenant.

My Tenant was using basic authentication prior to Modern. This was because I had a few issues with legacy applications using older methods. However I am now at a stage where I can enable Modern Authentication within my Tenant.

Please read on where I show how to do this.


I accessed the Microsoft 365 admin center via https://admin.microsoft.com and selected Settings > Org settings.

From here you will then need to scroll down until you see Modern Authentication. Select this option.

This now gives you some useful information regarding Modern Authentication and the application compatibility. To turn it on simply tick the box that says Turn on modern authentication for Outlook 2013 for Windows and later.

Once done, click Save.

You now have further basic authentication options to modify if you wish.
